FOLIC ACID

My rheumatologist told me that I must take folic acid supplements while on Simponi infusions. Why? Well, supposedly, folic acid supplementation helps counteract toxicity associated with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs. Folic acid is a B vitamin that assists the body in making new cells. Folate is naturally in broccoli (my favorite), spinach, beans, asparagus, lentils, collard greens, kale, turnip greens, romaine lettuce and basically dark leafy greens. Folic acid is the synthetic version of folate that is available in supplement form. Our bodies need folate for healthy cell growth. Folic acid helps reduce the possible side effects of the RA meds. I take 800 mcg of the folic acid supplement daily.

I admit, I'm not eating enough dark greens...and I feel the difference. So folks, treat your bodies well!!! Eat those dark leafy greens and take your folic acid supplements! Sending you all gentle hugs!!! Take care!!!
