Every once in a while, I'll have a good day. I used to love dancing before I was struck with RA. I decided to take advantage of my good days and do something I love. The other night I decided to go dancing at an 80s club with my sister for her birthday. I had so much fun and danced the night away with the girls. My sister commented, "You could have fooled me, I didn't think you could dance like that!" It was clean dancing I promise! The music took me back to my younger, healthier days and I just went with the music.
This brings to mind other things in life that we shouldn't ignore. It's ok to have FUN when you have RA. If you have that one day that you can walk...go to the beach and walk on that warm sand, go to the park with your kids, go on a much-needed date, dance in the living room (I do this all the time) and enjoy the day. I know that it can be hard to ignore the pain, but don't let it rule your day. When pain levels are lower than usual, go out...bask in the sun!
It's very important to refocus on the bigger picture than on the pain/disease. I have to refocus whenever a sad feeling appears. There was a point where I fell into deep depression at the beginning of this disease. I see life through different lenses now. Yes, there are sad moments, but I will not be depressed ever again. I want to live this life to the fullest.
I hope this article uplifts somebody out there. Always remember, you are not alone. I pray for happier, less painful moments in your lives. Go out and enjoy this beautiful life!
