Green Tea

Green tea is my favorite drink whether it be hot or cold. So what gives? Is this good for RA or what? I'll give it to you in layman's terms.

First of all, green tea contains polyphenols. Polyphenols are found in natural plant sources. These polyphenols are rich with antioxidants. Polyphenols have strong anti-inflammatory properties, protects your cardiovascular system, protects your skin against ultraviolet radiation and promotes normal blood sugar levels and normal blood pressure. I'm sure theres plenty of more benefits, but just to know that it helps with inflammation is good enough for me.

I upped my consumption of green tea since getting back to healthy eating. I have so much more energetic days and fewer down/flare days. Everyone is different, but this is my experience with it. I believe in drinking green tea in it's natural state. Buy green tea leaves and brew/steep for at least 5 minutes. Get all the "green" you can from it.

I stay away from white sugar and limit granulated sugar. I add half a teaspoon of honey. Manuka honey is the best since it has many medicinal benefits (it's name derives from bees in New Zealand/Australia that pollinate the Manuka bush). You can find Manuka honey at a local health food store. Try adding cinnamon (which possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties). With this combo,  you'll have an all natural green tea power punch in RA's face!

As with any food/drink...ALWAYS consult with YOUR DOCTOR before starting any new diet or supplement. Certain natural remedies can have an effect with certain medications. In my case, it has done me good.
